It enables sending images and videos to the publisher of your choice directly, instantly and more easily than ever before. The service is used by all major Finnish media companies, including Helsingin Sanomat (Biggest daily newspaper in Scandinavia), Maaseudun Tulevaisuus (Third biggest newspaper in Finland), MTV3 (Biggest commercial TV channel in Finland) and YLE (Finland's national broadcasting company).

How much does application and its use cost?

Mobile Citizen Reporter application itself is free of charge. Only usage costs involved are caused by data transfer. Because media files like images and videos are typically relatively large of size, one should check data transfer prices of mobile phone contract in use. Especially abroad roaming expenses might be surprisingly high. However, some Nokia smartphones and multimedia computers have support for wireless network connection which makes it possible to transfer media files for free!

Which are the recommended access point types?

The most reliable results are achieved by using Internet/GPRS access points.
WAP access points are not recommended.

How about the security?

The application uses SSL connections between phone and backbone system. Hence, even public hotspots of wireless network access can be used without a worry. Backbone system of service is in Finland on servers of a reliable ISP.

Can I be sure that my personal data will be in safe hands?

If you send your material as unregistered user, no personal data will be sent to publisher. However, to identify registered users their phone number will be sent to publisher. For further information, please read our Personal Data Act document.

Publisher list of Mobile Citizen Reporter is fetched from server. This makes it easy for new publishers to join the service. Participating in service enables your media to be visible on publisher list and hence receiving material from all the users of Mobile Citizen Reporter.
